A warm welcome to Marta Barnett Counselling and Psychotherapy, where I provide a safe and confidential space for you to explore your thoughts, emotions and patterns. Whatever has brought you to therapy, I’m here to walk this journey with you as we work together to find a way forward.
With a blend of experience, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach, I am dedicated to help you gain clarity and inner strength as you make sense of your experiences and uncover what truly matters to you.
Hi, I'm Marta. I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist based in Saltaire, West Yorkshire. I offer in person and remote sessions online and via telephone.
For almost 15 years, I've worked in the social housing sector, where I've developed a deep understanding of the environmental factors that impact our wellbeing. I’ve witnessed first-hand how every day circumstances can profoundly affect mental, physical and emotional wellbeing.
In the past 5 years, I've worked with victims and survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence offering trauma-informed support to survivors and their children. I am a qualified and trained Independent Domestic Violence Adviser (IDVA) and a Restorative Justice and mediation Practitioner.
I've worked as a therapist in general counselling and bereavement settings prior to setting up my practice.
I hold a degree in Counselling and Psychology and progressed to a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Leeds Beckett University. I am currently in the process of obtaining an Masters in Integrative Counselling.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their ethical framework.
The therapeutic relationship is at the heart of my work, and I believe it's essential to find a connection that feels right for you. To ensure we're a good fit, I offer a free 10-minute consultation where we can discuss your needs, and you can get a sense of who I am and how I work.
I work relationally, offering a truly personalised therapeutic relationship tailored to you, underpinned by various therapeutic approaches and techniques to meet your individual needs.
During our time together, we’ll explore what matters most to you. My role is to create a collaborative, safe, and non-judgmental environment so that you feel supported as we work through your challenges, helping you make sense of your experiences and find a path forward.
I offer in-person sessions at Victoria Therapy Centre in Saltaire, West Yorkshire, as well as remote sessions online and via telephone.
I see adult clients for both short-term and long-term therapy. Counselling and psychotherapy are both forms of talking therapy, but they differ in approach. Counselling is typically short-term and focuses on specific issues that you bring to the sessions. It’s more solution-focused, offering practical strategies and support to help you navigate immediate concerns.
Psychotherapy, on the other hand, is a longer-term, collaborative process that explores deeper emotional patterns and the underlying causes of distress.
You may simply be seeking a space to open up and talk or to address specific issues and areas in your life. Whatever concerns you bring into the therapy room, we’ll work together to explore and address them in a supportive and collaborative way.
I offer a 10-minute free consultation, where we can get to know one another and decide if we’re a good match to work together.
